In my previous blog I gave you 7 tips for a couples shoot. In this blog I hope to inspire you by showing you my top 5 newborn shoot poses.
Over shoulder
You can already see it above. Over the shoulder of mom and/or dad. Usually this pose is a favorite with the dads. Dad holds the baby, with the head visible above the shoulder. So you photograph towards the daddy's back and focus on the baby's face.
The most convenient option is for the baby's head to rest on daddy's shoulder. As a result, dads often have to hold the baby in an 'uncomfortably' high position. Please note, this often causes the father in question to lean slightly in the direction where they are holding their child. I always make them aware to stand as straight as possible, otherwise it will look a bit strange.
On the chest
I think one of the cutest poses is 'hanging' on the chest, with the face away from the chest (i.e. towards the camera). I also often have fathers perform this pose. This is a very beautiful sight, especially when they are sleeping. One hand is under the baby's bottom and the other hand supports the head. You can also ensure that the baby's head is underneath the daddy's head. The dad can then support the head with his own chin.
Hand in hand
I always think this is a very beautiful detailed photo. Place the baby's, mom's and dad's hands together. I think it is best to take this photo from above. Is there another brother or sister? Of course, that hand can also be added!
In the palms
This pose is best performed on bed. Have mom or dad make a bowl with their hands where the baby can lie with its head. Then ask them if they would like to nuzzle the baby or give them a kiss on the forehead! Very nice photos. You can shoot this pose beautifully from different perspectives.
Cozy cuddling
I almost always have the mom perform this pose. The mother holds the child in her arms in front of her, facing her own face. You can rest the baby's butt on mom's chest. This way the baby sits nice and cozy with mom and you can let them have some sweet nuzzling!
Tip : the mother automatically always leans forward to reach the baby's nose or forehead. That looks awkward and not very nice. I always ask them to sit up straighter and bring the baby further towards them. Babies are still incredibly flexible and can hold that pose really well. Personally, I often like the detailed photos that I can take (see below) the best. With this pose, don't just think about the overall picture, but about those wrinkled hands or feet that lean on mom.
